Dear all, welcome to my building of Robby from the movie “the forbidden planet”, printed in 3d with my Creality Ender Neo 3.
Robby the Robot originated as a supporting character in the 1956 MGM science fiction film Forbidden Planet.[4] The film’s storyline centers on a crew of Earth explorers who land their starship, the C57-D, on the planet Altair IV, inhabited by the mysterious human Dr. Morbius and his daughter Altaira who was born there. Robby is a mechanical servant that Morbius has designed, built, and programmed using knowledge gleaned from his study of the ancient Krell, a long-extinct race of highly intelligent beings that once populated Altair IV. The film’s plot is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s play The Tempest (1610), with the planet Altair IV standing in for Shakespeare’s remote island and Dr. Morbius for Prospero. In this context Robby is analogous to Ariel, a spirit enslaved by Prospero.
This is a snapshot of the movie.

I started printing all the pieces, doing the acetone bath and then applying a light primer.
For the transparent head there was a procedure involving a hot modification of a plastic piece but i prefered to print the helmet and then produce a mold and then a cast with transparent resin.

Then as usual a dark gray color and some specific colors here and there (the robot is basically full dark gray in the movie with some metallic parts).

for the Head I had to redo some of the levers with sewing pins and I added the two 45° levers that were missing in the model. Then I attached other side antennae missing that I built with wire and pieces of wheels from some plane model.
I proceeded to paint all the pieces and then put them together. I added also other two internal antennae in the helmet (they are visible in next pictures). I added some shades here and there simulating the metallic parts too and the light bluish grid under the head.

Finally added the transparent helmet painted inside as per reference in the movie (basically when Robby stats to be angry).

And basically Robby was finished.

Hope you enjoyed the build !
